    1. Thanks for the helpful video. My daughter is currently in the assessment loop for Aspergers, but has some in classroom sensory needs that have been identified and are being addressed (both formally and informally) by her primary school and occupational health. Will we be able to work together such that we can continue with those ways of working (as far as possible) at KES? She's only year 4 at the moment but we will be applying for her sister (current year 6) so it's important that we get the right school for both of them. I'd hope to have a more formal diagnosis by the time she arrives in any case! Thanks

      1. We are happy to work with advice from outside agencies and will always tailor support to an individual's needs.

      2. If a child enters year 7 from an external school with a diagnosis of dyslexia what systems are in place to support them?

        1. We would meet with both parent and pupil before entry to discuss specific needs. We would take on board advice from outsides agencies (Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist) and formulate an Individual Pupil Profile (IPP) for the pupil. This IPP would inform teachers of the pupil's strengths, vulnerabilities and ways to support them in class. Depending on the particular profile we can put timetable adjustments in place and arrange individual specialist support lessons (which are chargeable).

        2. you mentioned adjustments on the timetable, what do you mean by that? Would a child not have access to the full curriculum?

          1. Yes, your child would have access to a full curriculum. However, if a pupil is struggling with a full curriculum, adjustments to the timetable can be made to accommodate additional support.

          2. I have been bullied a lot in my primary school because I have Autism. I also got bullied because of my appearance. My school are really tough on bullies. How will you stop me being bullied at your school, or help me deal with a bully?

            Posted by Guest253, 17/10/2020 at 11:25

            1. We do not tolerate any form of bullying at King Edward's School. Pupils are encouraged to be friendly and to not discriminate. Our focus in Year 7 is for collaboration, being supportive of your peers and working together. We have PSHE sessions in the few weeks which focus on positive friendships, bullying and being safe online. Our PSHE program promotes building resilience. If someone says something that makes you unhappy, your form tutor, Head of Year or myself are available to talk it through so things can be sorted out quickly.
