    2. Are there any residential trips in the sixth form?

      1. Hi there and a great question! We take an Activities Week trip to Pompeii and the Bay of Naples every two years, but that's aimed at Years 8-10. In alternate years to the Pompeii trip, we run a Senior tour for Years 10-13. We've previously been to Greece (twice) and we are looking at either Sicily, Rome, Turkey or Greece again as our next destination (it depends on Covid restrictions and cost). We tend to go on these trips during October half term.

We also have a day trip to London for those studying Greek and Classical Civilisation. We visit the British Museum in the morning before watching the King's College Greek Play in the afternoon.

        1. And how many study Latin/Greek in the 6th form?

Posted by Open Day guest, 16/10/2020 at 18:47

          1. We average 2 for Greek, 3 for Classical Civilisation and 6 for Latin. We've got a really enthusiastic and passionate group of Classicists in Year 12 this year, with 5 Class Civ students, 3 Greek and 8 Latin. Given that only about 300 students sit A Level Greek in the country, that means we've got 1% of the country's entries here at KES!

            1. What are the main differences between Class Civ and Latin?

Posted by Open Day guest, 16/10/2020 at 18:58

              1. Good question! Latin is 50% studying Latin language and 50% studying Latin literature. In Class Civ, you won't have to read any ancient Greek or Latin in the original language, but you will read them in translation. You study 3 modules in Class Civ: World of the Hero (the Odyssey and Aeneid in translation), Greek Art and Love and Relationships. So you could say that with Classical Civilisation you will study more of the background society and a broader range of topics.

      2. Thanks very much for your comments and questions tonight. The page will remain open for questions for a few days so if anyone has anything else that they'd like to ask then you will have a reply from me by Monday at the latest. Enjoy the weekend!
