        1. How easy is it for external students to fit in to the sixth form?

Posted by Open Day guest, 16/10/2020 at 18:27

          1. It may seem overwhelming at first, but the existing students are very welcoming and the teachers make sure that the inter-year group forms bond well and quickly. Also, clubs, teams and activities make it really easy to meet new people and get involved in school life. Starting sixth-form feels "new" for everyone, so external students should find it easy to fit in.

            1. what activities does the school put on to help students settle in?

              Posted by Guest201, 16/10/2020 at 19:40

              1. Usually, we have several events to help students settle in, including a preliminary interview, induction day, pre-sixth form day, barbecue evening, and form outing to help you socialise within your year group. We also have sports teams and drama clubs which allow different year groups to get to know each other.

          2. what social events are there?

            Posted by Guest201, 16/10/2020 at 19:41

            1. who organises them, is there a sixth form committee?

              Posted by Guest201, 16/10/2020 at 19:44

              1. We do have a sixth form team made up of new and existing students who influence and lead the co-ordination of activities for the sixth form and in the Holbeche center. Mr Simonds and the senior tutor team also organise many whole year events, such as the school year-book and end of year prom.

              2. As well as the sixth form events, there are clubs and societies ranging from debating societies like MUN to orchestras and music groups which help students to get to know like-minded people. The Holbeche sixth form center is also a great hub for socialising with everyone, with daily form-time creating a sense of community with a smaller group of people with different interests.

              3. Do you feel there is excessive academic pressure to succeed given the schools reputation or is the environment welcoming to those who are less academically able (but are willing to work hard)?

                Posted by GuestK679, 16/10/2020 at 19:46

                1. Thank you for this question. The school is passionate about supporting every individual pupil achieve their own individual potential. There is an environment which encourages students to work hard, and high standards are set by teachers and the students themselves. The teachers gain great satisfaction from helping students overcome challenges and there are regular support sessions, run by individual departments, for those who need a bit more time on certain topics. The tutors and senior tutors monitor students progress and can step in and offer extra support to those who are finding the academic subjects challenging. We take delight in seeing each individual achieve their potential. Sixth Form is a period of schooling where individuals can specialise in what they enjoy and, given a positive approach, tend to thrive on the subjects that they feel confident with.
